How to become a Remote Online Notary in Oregon

Effective June 15, 2021, Oregon Notaries can apply to perform remote online notarizations (RONs).  If you want to become an OR remote Notary, take the following steps:

  • To become a Remote Online Notary in Oregon, you must hold a traditional Notary Public commission.
  • You also need to complete the state-required RON course online.
  • Additionally, you must complete the Remote Notarization Notice form (see below).  
  •  Contact a RON technology provider and obtain an electronic stamp and signature to notary-team.sos@oregon.gov.
  •  Submit the Remote Notarization Notice along with your vendor's electronic stamp and signature.
  • Wait for an acknowledgment that will either approve or reject your request.
  • Once you have received approval, you can begin performing remote notarizations.
